Francis L. (Frank) Dodge (ca. 1856-March 13, 1946) was the son of Egbert B. ([October 24, 1822?]-December 18, 1910) and Eliza [Catherine (Sax)?] Dodge [October 30, 1831?]-?) and the brother of Edgar S. and Etta M. (Mrs. E.N. Snow). He was the owner for many years of the Ashland general store and, in 1889, was appointed postmaster of the town, a post it appears he held off and on into the 1930s. Frank married Mary Clark (1863-1932) in 1883 and they had three children: Fred C., Florence ([Mrs. George Osborn?]), and George. Fred took over the general store from his father. Frank married Mrs. Hattie Turk on June 9, 1934.
The papers consist chiefly of letters related to the business affairs of Frank L. Dodge, proprietor of a general store in Ashland, Greene County, New York. The letters are mostly from wholesalers, jobbers, etc., that sold a wide array of goods and services. These papers also include several invoices detailing goods that were purchased by Dodge. A few letters are addressed to E.B. Dodge, Frank's father.
