The Wallkill Valley Railroad Company was founded in 1866. The main line ran between Kingston (Ulster County, and Montgomery (Sullivan County), New York. It was later consolidated into the New York Central System.
This series consists of two kinds of records: cash journals and account ledger books. The cash journals are arranged chronologically by day, providing a record of cash receipts and expenditures. The account ledger book contains essentially the same data, but is arranged by subject. Typical sources of income were passenger ticket sales and freight shipments. Expenditures included labor, maintenance, and supplies. Information is incomplete, as there are many blank pages.
