Scope and Contents Note:

These papers are a compilation of genealogical research material related to some 100 families who had lived in the Town of Jefferson, Schoharie County, New York, from its settlement in 1794 to the mid-1900s. The papers are arranged alphabetically by surname. Some folders also include information on allied families. Much of the information for each family is presented as a narrative or in a story-like manner.  It is quite likely that some of these genealogical stories were prepared by Mr. Bouton. Many others are of such varying styles that they were probably prepared by members of the family or had been passed along from ancestors. Many folders also contain correspondence with members of the Jefferson families scattered about the country with whom Mr. Bouton, in quest of information, corresponded. Additional information regarding Eugene Bouton's genealogical research can be found in a document entitled The Families of Jefferson, Schoharie County, New York As Documented in the Papers of Eugene Bouton located, as of February 17, 2005, on the Schoharie County NYGenWeb siteexternal link.
