Second Saturdays

Attention Visitors:

Effective January 1, 2020 the New York State Library will change its Saturday public hours.

The Library will be open only on the second Saturday of each month from 9:30 am – 5:00 pm. The Library will be closed all other Saturdays. The Library remains open weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 9:30 am – 5:00 pm.

The "Second Saturdays at the State Library" will offer special programming and support for researchers and genealogists. The "Second Saturdays" dates for 2020 are:

  • January 11
  • February 8
  • March 14
  • April 11
  • May 9
  • June 13
  • July 11
  • August 8
  • September 12
  • October 10
  • November 14
  • December 12

This change will allow the Library to shift resources to Monday through Friday operations, which experience peak on-site visitation and reference requests. This change will also increase the capacity to provide important services that expand the Library's reach beyond its physical walls, including interlibrary loan, digitization of documents, and reference requests received via email and phone. As a reminder, the Library's online catalog and digital collections are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
